As part of our continued focus on talent, specifically, the younger professionals working at Alliott Group member firms in the APAC region, we recently caught up with Manav S. Mer, a rising star at our accounting firm member Sampat & Mehta, in Mumbai, India. We asked him to share with us why he chose a career in accountancy, what motivates him and what he values from Alliott Group.

2. Why did you choose this as your career?

I chose Chartered Accountancy as my career as there's always new challenges i.e. updates coming up every now and then which helps me to improve myself and view things with a different perspective and vision. Furthermore, it helps me to think about challenges logically and practically. I chose to to work in GST as it was a completely new area at the time for India with opportunities to learn lots of new concepts I had never learned before.

3. What is the best part of your job?

Here at Sampat & Mehta, the faith with which my colleagues let me handle matters independently motivates me every day to improve myself every day, making me feel more confident and responsible. I am focused on improving my skills in work management, time management, soft skills and much more. At my firm, the support of my colleagues and the requirement to do well has always been balanced. 

4. What is your firm’s difference in your opinion?

Providing independence in the workplace.

5. What do you consider your greatest achievement to date?

In India GST was introduced to India in July 2017. It was a big challenge for the team as well as for our clients to ensure a smooth transition from the Indirect Tax regime to GST. With the support of my colleagues the transition was very smooth and all of us, as part of a team, achieved great success.

6. What motivates you?

Learning new things and acquiring new skills that help me to be more disciplined such as meeting deadlines and achieving goals and targets that make me feel confident about myself. I also enjoy coaching others and building a team;  sharing knowledge and improving processes plus problem solving and coming up with creative ideas.

Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Bombay Chartered Accountant Society.

 

9. What is one thing you would like to see Alliott Group implement?
